Digging!!!

Hey everyone. So we've had so many improvements with Lilah and are having a blast with her, but... It's just the beginning of the rainy season and we live in western NC aka georgia clay country. We have had the hardest time with Lilah digging. She comes to the door with mud dripping from her paws and her mouth. And her coat is a sponge and holds a ton, so it is all over the place! Anyone know why she may be doing this? I'm wondering that bc her face is all dirty, she must be digging for something to she thinks is edible, maybe. I don't know why she'd dig her face in there like that otherwise. We've tried putting huge rocks over the places she digs, but then she moves on somewhere else. How do we communicate to her that she can't do this? She almost seems like she knows she's done something wrong. We generally rush her off to the tub to wash off the mess. Any ideas or experiences?
