Masticatory Myositis

My wonderful Bodhi has just been diagnosed with Masticatory Myositis. It is a rare disease that effects larger breed dogs, like golden retrievers or labradors as well as shepherds.
He can't open his mouth and the muscles on top of his head are shrinking. It is muscle inflammation of the masseter(jaw) and temporalis(on top of head) muscles. It arises when the immune system inappropriately attacks these 2M muscle fibres. They do not know why this happens!
Poor guy has to be on prednisone for at least six months and after some very expensive tests. I hope that once that happens he is back to his old self. It comes on fast and furious and has been no fun!
Poor guy!
